Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy from India was nominated for The Man Booker International Prize 2013 and the jury praised him for the humanity of his works and its unconventional themes.

- in 1994, he received Jnanpith Award for the Kannada language, the highest literary honor conferred in India.

- in 1998, he received the Padma Bhushan award from the Government of India.

- he is a contemporary writer, critic in the Kannada language and considered as one of the pioneers of the Navya movement.
